Providing Shelter for Wildlife on your Property

It is easy to create supplemental shelter to increase the non-game wildlife population on your property. Here are three ideas to get you started:

1. Consider not removing some areas with dead or fallen trees and stumps: the cavities provide nesting sites for birds, squirrels, bats, and sometimes duck if the cavity is large enough.

2. Add wildlife nesting boxes. You can build your own and sized to the right dimensions, will attract owls, bats, wood ducks and songbirds.

3. Leaving stacked brush that has been cleared from your property – or purposely cut and piled for this use – will create denning and escape cover for birds, mammals and amphibians.
